World Bank Knowledge Index

The World Bank has a Knowledge Index that they calculate for countries that can be used as a tool to understand trends.

What is in the index?

  1. Education (adult literacy, enrollment in high schools and colleges)
  1. Information access (telephones, computers, internet users)
  1. Scientific and technological productivity (researchers, patents, journal articles)
  1. Institutional integrity (rule of law, regulatory quality, open economies)

Correlations

Apparently the Knowledge Index explains 70% of the variation in Emancipative values in a country, better than GDP.

Criticisms

I have some concerns that the idea of Emancipative values, and some of the factors of the index have a Western bias.
