spatial interfaces need to allow us to point

This is a discussion specifically the With others category of experience types.

For any spatial computing platform to be more than just a personal workstation, it needs to jump the chasm of allowing two wearers to share the same space (either at home, or at a destination) and point at objects with confidence.

This belief comes from my understanding of UX and social dynamics. The physicality of sharing the same space feels important.

It’s important to understand what someone is looking at (even if it’s just them looking down at their phone).

It’s important for the “virtual” nature of the interface to fall away, and for the group members to begin operating with the standard comforts of sharing a physical space. And I think that idea is embodied by the physical act of pointing to show something virtual to someone else who’s next to you.

This is one of the reasons why video calling is difficult. We don’t share the full space with the other user, and thus

There is also the element of the communication delay, but that shouldn’t be an issue in the With others scenario
