We should be more focused on effective policy than on effective altruism

Effective policy is more resilient than effective individual giving

the term “altruism” attracts people who believe government cannot operate effectively

the term “policy” attracts people who believe government fundamentally can solve problems

it is more important that people from the latter group are working to think in an outcome-oriented, data-driven way

this way of thinking is the best element of effective altruism, the diligence to avoid bias and consider only the solutions that produce the best outcomes
