FOOD (an array of things to try)

kadayif - good dessert

baklava - if you see a Gulluoglu, get it there and get the one with pistachios, this is a classic place and that is the best, classic kind of baklava

ayran - yogurt drink, worth trying

balik ekmek - fish sandwich served right off the water, always delicious and cheap (3 to 5 lira), one of my favorites.

midye dolma - stuffed mussels, sold off the street right by the water, usually 50 cents per mussel. so good and cheap, another favorite of mine.

doner - “gyro”, but better lol

kokorec - like doner, but with intestines. classic turkish drunk food.

iskender - a very good dish made with doner meat, get it if the restaurant looks legit

pide - turkish pizza, so good. kasarli (cheese), sucuklu (turkish sausage), all good

manti - turkish ravioli, of sorts. if it is a manti specialized place (called a mantici or a manticisi) then it will likely be very good.

dondurma - means ice cream, MADO is a good restaurant for ice cream (and for turkish style breakfast), and there are the street stands where they give you old turkish style ice cream (called maras, worth a try if you like ice cream, its kinda different and gummy).
