Criticisms of focusing on poverty over inequality

One criticism is that inequality is only a discussion in so far as poverty exists. I think this is a fair criticism, and shows that the two forms of thinking are not as far off from each other as they may seem. However, inequality triggers defense from free-market capitalists, some of which I think could be avoided by referencing poverty more directly.

The criticisms here are reasonable, but seem to be still leaning on justification that inequality is as bad as poverty, rarely making the full-throated argument that solving inequality should be the core concern, or even that solving inequality would solve poverty (an argument I would have sympathy for).

Daniel Hirschman does fairly rebut Harry Frankfurt on the claim that economic equality is not morally valuable at all, and I agree with Daniel Hirschman on that.
