Benefits of deferring work

Benefits of deferring work

Sometimes considered strategic laziness.

Relating to a 4 day work week

Replying to a comment by Dylan Matthews mentioning the Iceland 4 day work week trial:

Among other ways the productivity gap could be reduced, I suspect there is a non-trivial benefit to deferring work. If you don’t work on Friday, very reasonable to assume that the work you would have done on Friday will not be 100% the same as the work you end up doing on Monday.

Whether because of new information (e.g. something changed over the weekend) or new insights (e.g. the benefits of sleeping for creative tasks), spacing out work can at least reduce wasting time pursuing fruitless paths.
