reimagine roxboro

2023 road diet and accessibility intervention recommendations derived from walk audit and community engagements with the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission in Durham

North Roxboro Street is a state-maintained road in Durham that has a bus line to downtown and is located in an historically black neighborhood. High-car speeds and poor infrastructure have made this an unsafe and unpleasant place for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit-users, and BPAC decided to conduct a walk audit and community engagement process with the neighborhood to present a recommendation to the City Council. After months of engagement and multiple site visits, I drafted the initial report that BPAC eventually approved and delivered to City Council. This report had recommendations for short-term and long-term improvements, including improvements to transit access for local residents.
