Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Looking at the etymology of a sandwich one sees that it originates from the Earl of Sandwich in England. Which leads one to ask similar questions: Is a hamburger a sandwich? Or a sandwich a hamburger? Or are they mutually exclusive?
