Getting Lost in Notes

Even with linked notes, as you are browsing around it is easy to feel lost, like you don’t know how much each atomic note matters relative to another. It can fel like you can be endlessly meandering through notes without an understanding of where you are and why it matters.

One can see when browsing Andy Matuschak notes that linking alone can create a bit of this endless wandering effect. Wikipedia is in some ways not free of this issue either.

Is there a way that we could see a “level of depth” that we are in? Link and backlink counts help, but not fully. Maybe 2 Maps of Content can resolve this to some degree.

Perhaps what would be interesting to do is to essentially add a “Z Axis” to the graph view. So there are different levels of notes, such that “top level” ideas represent the more general, more core concepts, and the “low level” ideas are for truly atomic and flesh out the details of the higher levels.
